How SEO works

How SEO works

With most pages on the website the SEO will be setup in a certain way.

We have three schemas in total

  • Main content
  • SEO
  • Open Graph

Main Content

THink of this as the main content of the page. This will always be used and propagated to the rest of the schemas if nothing is set as an override for SEO or Open Graph. The reason we do this, is because most pages will just use the main content as the description, but it gives you the ability to override it for those pages that get traction and you want to have more control over the description.

SEO

This is pretty self explanatory. This is where you can set the title, description and other SEO related things. These will be the ones that show up on Google and other search engines. Despite what is commonly stated you can have a different title on Google and the title that shows up on your website. As with meta descriptions, you may want to go for a keyword rich description to help with SEO.

Open Graph

This is where you can set the title, description, image and other Open Graph related things. These will be the ones that show up on social media.

Dynamic OG cards

We use Vercel OG to generate the Open Graph cards. This can take values such as the page title, however, it's worth noting, currently it's setup quite bare bones as otherwise you would need to update the OG card for every single page on the site. This is why we have a default OG card that is used if nothing is set.

We speak about this more in the roadmap requests page.
